Conservation Cornerstone Celebration – April 5
Come join the Central Virginia Land Conservancy (CVALC) as we honor Senator Creigh Deeds with our Conservation Cornerstone Award.
Each year, this award is presented in honor of a citizen who lives in our service area for their contributions towards the preservation and protection of forest and farmland.
Recognition this year goes to Senator Creigh Deeds, who serves citizens in the 11th Senate District. This district includes the counties of Albemarle, Nelson, Amherst, part of Lousia and the city of Charlottesville.
Senator Deeds is not new to environmental stewardship. His efforts began in 1999 with legislation he co-sponsored to create the Virginia Land Conservation Foundation (VLCF). Overseen by Virginia’s Department of Conservation and Recreation, more than 1,275,000 acres of open spaces, parklands, lands of historic or cultural significance, farmlands, forests, and natural areas have been protected through the VLCF. This is five times the size of Shenandoah National Park.
In addition to recognition from CVALC, Senator Deeds is one of five legislators recognized for their environmental stewardship by the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, which ranks all 140 Virginia lawmakers based on their votes on conservation issues.
You are invited to share this fun evening in celebration of the preservation of Central Virginia’s natural heritage.
