Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.
On January 19th the MLK committee hosted the 27th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at the Heritage Center in Arrington. The event was well attended by a diverse group of 200+ citizens gathering to honor all that Dr. King’s legacy means to our community.
Speakers were Dr. Martha Eagle, Superintendent of Nelson County Schools; Daniel Rutherford, Nelson County Commonwealth Attorney; David Hill, Nelson County Sheriff. Two retiring educators were thanked for their service to Nelson County Schools. Sandra McKenzie with 36 years and Deborah Meredice with 32 years in the profession of education were recognized for their many extraordinary contributions to our school system.
The MLK Scholarship committee is already looking forward to next year’s celebration and planning is underway for the event. It’s always important to remember that Dr. King gave his life to make a difference, it’s especially significant as we observe Black History Month in February. We’re looking forward to another successful MLK Day Celebration next January. Hope to see you all there!
