Early No Excuse Voting in November
Good news! You can either Vote-by-Mail or cast your ballot in-person in the 2020 election in Virginia.
Vote-by-Mail is the best way to cast your vote and avoid catching the COVID-19 virus while doing so. The election law changes make it no longer necessary to provide a reason for taking this route. And you don’t need an excuse! You can apply to vote-by-mail here.
If you would prefer to vote in person, you can still go to the polls on Election Day Nov. 3 or you can even vote early (starting Sat., September 19 (45 days before the election! ) ! You can just walk into our local registrar’s office or satellite location and vote. Contact Nelson County Registrar Jacqueline (Jackie) Britt on 571 Front St., Lovingston or call 434-263-7190 or email jbritt@nelsoncounty.org. On Nov. 3, Polling stations will be open 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. The state is also removing the requirement that voters show a photo ID to be able to vote. Voters can provide various other documents, including their voter registration confirmation record, driver’s license, passport, utility bill or bank statement.
No-excuse early voting is just one of several new laws making it easier for all Virginians to vote. The VA Department of Elections has updated its website. Stay tuned for additional information.
Think NOW about YOUR plan to vote in November! Encourage your family, friends, and neighbors do the same! This is how we win!
