County Registrar: Trusted Source of Voting Information

Nelson County citizens, and all Virginia voters, will have more voting options this fall. They can cast ballots at the polls on November 3. Or, they can vote in person at their local registrar’s office starting 45 days before Election Day. They also can request no-excuse, absentee ballots by mail, which will be sent to voters in mid-September.

“With three voting options, Virginia aims to make voting easier, safer, and more accessible,” says Director of Elections and General Registrar Jacqueline Britt.

1.    Vote by Absentee by Mail

2.   Vote Early In-Person  -- Beginning September 18 at the Registrar's Office on 571 Front Street, Lovingston, Monday - Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. It will also be open those same hours Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, October 31.

3.   Vote In-Person on Election Day -- November 3, 6 a.m. – 7 p.m.

“If you want to exercise your right to vote as safely as possible, voting Absentee by Mail is a good bet,” she says. “Voting Early In Person is another a good option. You’ll likely miss the lines as voters will be dispersed across 45 days.”

The Registrar encourages all voters who would like to receive an absentee ballot for the November election to apply online on the Virginia Department of Elections website. “No excuse is needed. And, you can request one now. The deadline is by 5 p.m. Friday, October 23,” Britt says.

“If you have already applied for an absentee ballot, you don’t need to submit a new application,” she adds. “ The first day that absentee ballots will be mailed is September 18.”
