A Call to Action from our Chair

Connie Brennan, Chair NCDC

Dear Nelson Democrats and Supporters,

The administration is taking a wrecking ball to our government, but we’re not powerless, so you’re going to find a different kind of newsletter below. While our core mission will always be to elect Democrats (and that’s more important than ever this November), NCDC will do its utmost to provide updates and highlight opportunities to speak out responsibly.

I was so heartened at the tremendous turnout during our first committee meeting of the year on Feb. 3. Thank you for your commitment, and I want you to know we appreciate and will build on suggestions that came out of our listening sessions.

And now, let’s get to work.

TAKE ACTION

GOP Town Hall. It’s time to ask Congressman John McGuire the tough questions during his phone-in town hall at 6 p.m. Feb. 26.  Info through Indivisible.org here.

Economic Boycott Feb 28. We're not endorsing it, but we know there’s lots of interest in this protest. Please note: When it comes to small businesses here in Nelson, NCDC supports them every single day of the year, no exceptions, and we hope you will, too. Find details online.

Road Trip! Organized group visits to McGuire’s office in Lynchburg are being planned to relay concerns of Nelson residents. Email info@bluenelson.org if you’re interested.

Call, Call, Call. Tell Democratic Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner to keep fighting for us. Dial 202-224-3121 and follow the prompts, or check out 5calls.org for contact info and scripts. (And don’t forget to give McGuire a ring).

All Hands on Deck. What part of this fight calls to you? We need your help more than ever.  Email us and let’s talk.

BE STRATEGIC

Reason for Hope. Sen. Kaine lays out a five-part approach to save our democracy. Read it here.

High Stakes. Statewide elections this November will have an impact on our lives for years to come. Get up to speed on who’s running in the Democratic primaries.

Let the Sun Shine In. Two special congressional elections on April 1 in Florida could really put a dent in GOP control of the House. Find out what you can do.

GOOD NEWS!

Line of Duty. The General Assembly approved a bill to expand Line of Duty Act benefits to officers working for private college campuses and private police departments (like Wintergreen). Special thanks to Sen. Creigh Deeds and Del. Amy Laufer for co-sponsoring in their respective chambers.

Rally for Freedom. Hundreds, including some Nelson folk, turned out to peacefully protest against fascism in Charlottesville Feb. 17. The feeling of solidarity was awesome!
