Your Vote and Your Voice Matter

Connie Brennan, Chair NCDC

“Whether this election is making you feel excited, scared, hopeful, or frustrated or anything in between, do not just sit back and hope for the best. Get off your couch and vote. Put down your phone and vote. Grab your friends and family and vote.”

—  President Barack Obama, Oct. 10, 2024

The two sweetest words in the English language right now – “I voted.” We’re closing in on the end of a long and stressful election season, and it all comes down to whether each of us has cast our ballot and how many others we’ve encouraged to do the same.

Democrats don’t just need to win, we need to win big. The Trump camp is already preparing to challenge election results, but large margins of victory will make their bogus claims that much less credible.

KEEP YOUR SPIRITS UP AND YOUR HEAD DOWN

I’m convinced that our enthusiasm and our devotion to country will make the difference in this election, so don’t let anyone diminish or discourage you. And that goes for everyone who’s standing with us this year, no matter your political leanings.

If the lies, the hate, and the threats from an increasingly desperate Trump and his team are distracting (which is what they want), tune them out. If political pundits and constant polling have you on a rollercoaster of emotions, ignore them.

Focus on the only thing that matters — getting out the vote for Democrats up and down the ballot from now until Nov. 5. In Kamala’s own words, “Let us always remember, when we fight, we win.”

USE THE NEXT FEW DAYS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

And remember, too, why you’re doing all this. Embrace the joy and hope that embodies the Harris/Walz campaign. How many of us will rest easier knowing that, with Democrats at the helm, our reproductive rights won’t be stolen from us, affordable health care will still exist, economic opportunities will lift up the middle class instead of the wealthy, our planet will be cleaner, and our democracy will endure?

This outcome, folks, is our reason for being through Nov. 5. Please vote if you haven’t done so already. Then make it your mission to talk to one more relative, reach out to one more neighbor who may need a ride to the polls, or campaign for a candidate one last time.

Let’s get out there. We can rest when it’s over. We have a government and a country to save.
