A New Resource for Democrats in Rural Communities
The “One Country Project”provides a clearinghouse for research and information to facilitate connections among Democratic candidates, the Democratic Party, and rural communities. Started just last year by former Democratic Senators Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly, its mission is “to reopen the dialogue with rural communities, rebuild trust and respect, and advance an opportunity agenda for rural Americans.”
One Country’s research resources are highly acclaimed and address issues like the lack of adequate medical care resources in rural areas, economic effects of Trump trade policies, the runaway opioid epidemic in rural communities, and the reaction of rural voters to Trump’s impeachment. One message is consistent throughout the newsletters—Democratic candidates will need rural votes to win the Presidency. “One Country” can be a valuable asset toward that end.
